PLTIVICE LAKES National park is one of the most popular natural beauties around the world. It is the most visited, largest and oldest national park in Croatia. Plitvice lakes are situated in the central part of Croatia so called Lika and historically known as Krajina. Amazing natural beauty of Plitvice attracts nature lovers from beginning of the 20th century, and it was already proclaimed Croatia’s first national park on April 8th 1949. The sedimentary rock formation (tufa) or travertine barriers resulted in creation of 16 big and numerous small lakes. Because of this outstanding universal natural phenomenon the Plitvice Lakes were in 1979 listed UNESCO World Heritage List. Plitvice lakes National park is comprised of 16 bigger named lakes and smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one after another. Basically the park is divided in Upper lakes (12 lakes) and Lower Lakes (4 lakes). Our walking tour of the Plitvice takes you around the Lower and the Upper lakes, impressive waterfalls and spots for taking photos and includes boat and train ride around the Lakes.

The similar natural phenomena, like at the Plitvice Lakes, Rastoke village is also known as “Small Plitvice”. More than 300 years ago a water mills settlement was established in Rastoke. The biggest numbers of stone-wooden houses were built at the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century.
