Plitvice Day Tour Overview:

Private Plitvice lakes Day Tour from Zagreb includes a visit to the Plitvice National park – the only Croatian national park under the protection of UNESCO, Rastoke millers’ village – fairy tale houses and waterfalls, dairy farm with local cheese and schnapps tastings and Homeland War museum in city of Karlovac that present turbulent military past of the region.

PLTIVICE LAKES National park is one of the most popular natural beauties around the world. It is the most visited, largest and oldest national park in Croatia. Plitvice lakes are situated in the central part of Croatia so called Lika and historically known as Krajina. Amazing natural beauty of Plitvice attracts nature lovers from beginning of the 20th century, and it was already proclaimed Croatia’s first national park on April 8th 1949. The sedimentary rock formation (tufa) or travertine barriers resulted in creation of 16 big and numerous small lakes. Because of this outstanding universal natural phenomenon the Plitvice Lakes were in 1979 listed UNESCO World Heritage List. Plitvice lakes National park is comprised of 16 bigger named lakes and smaller unnamed lakes, cascading one after another. Basically the park is divided in Upper lakes (12 lakes) and Lower Lakes (4 lakes). Our walking tour of the Plitvice takes you around the Lower and the Upper lakes, impressive waterfalls and spots for taking photos and includes boat and train ride around the Lakes.

RASTOKE MILLERS VILLAGE is a tiny village with fairy tale houses, water mills and waterfalls on place where a river Slunjčica flows into river Korana. The similar natural phenomena, like at the Plitvice Lakes, Rastoke village is also known as “Small Plitvice”. More than 300 years ago a water mills settlement was established in Rastoke. The biggest numbers of stone-wooden houses were built at the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th century. Remarkable natural sights and tradition, Rastoke village was proclaimed as cultural and historical heritage. When you walk around the village or drink your morning tea or coffee with our tour guide you can still feel the unique harmony between the man and nature that were cultivated through centuries.

HOMELAND WAR MUSEUM is located in place Turanj near city of Karlovac. Museum is on the main road Plitvice lakes and it is really worth to stop and to feel turbulent history of this part of Europe. Turanj museum is on the remnants of Austrian army barracks, and a witness to the interesting and abundant military past. Turanj is a symbol of victory and return, of new life emerging in war-torn areas. On the army barracks site, today one can find remnants of the facilities damaged by combat activities in the Homeland War. There you can see a collection of weapons and army vehicles of the Homeland War.
